Safety tips for domestic and commercial LPG (cooking gas) consumers

  • Ensure that your gas cylinder is good, free from rust and leakage (You can detect cylinder leakage when you immerse a filled cylinder in a drum of water, if you observe any bubbles from the body of the cylinder, condemn the cylinder).

  • Ensure that your cylinder valve is good and free from leakage (You can detect valve leakage when you drop water on top of the valve if you observe any bubbles change the valve).

  • If you live in a duplex or a bungalow, put your cooking gas cylinder outside the house for safety; connect a gas pipe from your cooker through the kitchen wall to your cylinder outside.

  • If you live in a block of flats, put your cooking gas cylinder at the balcony outside the house for safety; connect a gas pipe from your cooker through the kitchen wall to the Cylinder outside.

  • If you live in a house or a block of flats without a balcony or your environment is not conducive or safe to put cylinder outside and you cannot afford to do without using cooking gas, then you must be very vigilant. Cooking gas has a distinct smell for easy detection, as soon as you perceive the smell of gas open all windows and doors around to allow for air.

  • Before you go to bed or go out for work, be double sure that your cooker and regulator are properly switched off.
